Sustainability (ESG)
We aim to be leaders in minimising direct and embodied carbon emission and to provide energy efficient, low carbon solutions for our customers. As we continued to develop our practices, we envisage that this policy will evolve in response to business practices and technological innovation.
- Raising Awareness – Raising staff awareness on the environmental impact of Explore’s operations, educating on the impact of climate change and promoting green initiatives.
- Expansion and Development – Ensuring that all future expansion and development is designed to reduce Explore’s carbon footprint wherever possible.
- Efficiency – Efficiency is a key part of our business, and all vehicles are purchased from leading OEM’s with the overall aim of running the most fuel-efficient fleet in the UK. To ensure we keep up to date with legislation we aim to replace our core fleet every 12 months allowing us to take advantage of new product developments and enhancements.
- Euro 6 Compliant Fleet – We operate a modern and clean fleet of the latest Euro 6 compliant vehicles, backed up by industry leading planning and routing systems.
- Reducing Empty Mileage – We strive to achieve maximum efficiency across all operations and our depot network and business development activities are targeted towards achieving the lowest ‘empty mileage’ of any operator in our sector; resulting in fewer, more efficient loads on the road, minimising the impact on fuel burn and therefore emissions.
The Explore Way: Our Sustainability in Action
- By operating a large-scale nationwide fleet we are able, we are able to achieve industry-leading levels network efficiency and “loaded mileage %”, which results in minimal emissions levels and cost savings for our customers.
- We recognise that we operate in a price sensitive market. We invest heavily in equipment, training and systems in order to achieve our high standards of safety and customer service in the most cost-effective package by creating and inventingefficiencies in the way we operate.
- We replace our core transport fleet of trucks every 12-18 months in order to always be operating with the most modern and fuel-efficient engines in our trucks.
- We recruit the best people, and then we invest in their training and development.
- We have a successful apprenticeship programme in place with candidates working through various qualifications, gaining experience on mechanical plant and transport operations.
- We engage with our local communities, we aim to be a good neighbour and we support local and national charities.
- Our Rail fleet is the most modern hire fleet in the UK. In the rail plant industry it has become normalised for plant and equipment to be10-20 years old. These ageing machines use older engine technology which emits far higher emissions levels compared to modern machinery used on civil construction sites
- We have chosen to break the trend in the rail sector by offering a brand new fleet of high-tech machines which offer world-class sustainability and emissions levels together with enhanced safety, lifting and performance capabilities from modern control systems on each piece of equipment.
